What is a Personal Pronoun?
As its name sounds that Personal Pronouns are related to grammatical persons. The term used “Personal” doesn’t mean that these pronouns are related to persons or people only. Personal word indicates the grammatical sense which means that it is not limited to persons and can also be used for place, animals, objects or things. Subject Personal Pronoun
Object Personal Pronoun
Subject Personal Pronoun: Subject Pronouns like (I, he, we, she, you, it and they) are used in place of the subject in the sentence. Let’s take an example to clarify subject pronoun.
John is not coming to school today. He has to go to the hospital.
‘John’ is the subject and ‘He’ is the subject pronoun.
Object Personal Pronoun: Object Pronouns like (Me, You, her, him, us, it, and them) are used in place of the object in the sentence. Let’s take an example to clarify object pronoun.
Jenny is a sweat girl. You should meet her.
‘Jenny’ is the subject pronoun and ‘Her’ is the object pronoun.
Personal Pronouns can be used according to number, gender and cases which are discussed below.
(a) Personal Pronouns are used for three persons.
First person –The one(s) speaking (I, my, me, mine, we, us, our, ours)
Second person– The one(s) spoken to (you, your, yours)
Third person– The one(s) spoken about (he, she, it, him, her, his, hers, its, they, them, their)
Example
I want to be a doctor. (First person)
Do you have a pen? (Second person)
She is going. (Third person)
(b) Three Gender
Feminine-(she, her, hers)
Masculine-(he, him, his)
Neuter-(it, its, they, them, their, theirs)
Example
She wants to go her uncle’s house.
John wants to get his watch.
The tree has lost all of its leaves in autumn season.
(c) Two Numbers
Singular– I, my, me, mine, he, his, him, she, her, hers, you, yours, it, its
Plural-we, us, our, ours, you, your, yours, they, them, their, theirs.
Example
I will give you a book.(Singular Pronoun)
We and you have taken our shares.(Plural pronoun)
Note: In English grammar, we never make any distinction between singular or plural form of “YOU”

Subjective Pronouns– (I, you, he, she, it, we, they)
Possessive Pronouns – (My, mine, your, yours, his, her, hers, our, ours, their, theirs)
Objective Pronouns – (Me, you, him, her, it, us, them)
